GEOEYE: Showing the World to the World

In late 2009, GeoEye, the preeminent provider of geospatial and imaging solu¬tions for public- and private-sector clients worldwide, was up for a 10-year government contract award that would prove to be a game-changer for the company. GA was retained as GeoEye’s Agency of Record to help them secure this nearly $4 billion “EnhancedView” contract from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.

With this contract win, GeoEye could ensure its future success over the next decade as it met imagery needs for not only U.S. intelligence concerns, but agriculture and environmental protection groups, the media and many others.

Working with GeoEye’s internal communications team, GA implemented a media-relations and awareness strategy that not only underscored the company’s breathtaking imagery to mainstream press, but also the technology behind that imag¬ery to industry trades. Placing GeoEye’s imagery within mainstream and trade press was also a logical goal, but stressing the positive impact of GeoEye’s technology on the research, defense and security industries was also a primary objective.

Throughout the campaign, GA achieved several milestones for GeoEye. For example, GeoEye captured a photograph of Haiti shortly after the devastating earthquake struck in January 2010. GA placed the photo¬graph in a number of high-profile media outlets throughout the U.S., providing a sobering visual of the earthquake’s true impact to the American people. As a result, GA earned more than 30 million media impressions for the company. GA also placed an Executive Spotlight of the company’s Vice President of Communications in a prominent trade magazine.

And in August 2010, GeoEye was awarded a 10-year, $3.8 billion EnhancedView contract.

In addition, GA also manages GeoEye’s non-profit arm, the GeoEye Foundation, working with academic and research-based organizations around the globe to harness the power of GeoEye’s imagery. GA has also successfully submitted GeoEye executives and the company itself for numerous industry and executive leadership awards, including the Deloitte Fast 500, SmartCMO and the Northern Virginia Technology Council CFO of the Year.
